EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BRANTINGHAM

BRANTINGHAM is located on the southern border of the Adirondack Park, in Lewis County, New York.   Once primarily occupied by seasonal residents occupying their camps as summer destinations only,  Brantingham is more and more often becoming a year-round home.  Increased property expenses have made it difficult for seasonal only residents to maintain the expenses of two homes.  

Brantingham is home to Brantingham Lake, its largest body of water, which is connected directly to the Lily Pond through a short channel.   It also houses Lake of the Pines, Pleasant Lake, and Long Pond.   Water generally flows into Brantingham Lake, drains out through the Lily Pond which then feeds into Lake of the Pines.  

 

BRANTINGHAM WEATHER CONDITIONS

Brantingham enjoys time equally within each of the 4 seasons, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring.  Temperatures in the summer average in the mid to high 70’s and can get up to the 90’s Farenheight at times.   Winters can be quite frigid at temperatures well below 0 but averaging in the mid to high 20’s.  Brantingham gets an average snowfall of 200 inches per year.  The cold weather, elevation, and proximity to lake effect snow make it an ideal location for those who enjoy snow activities such as snowmobiling and snow skiing.  Summers welcome a variety of water and boating activities as well as Mountain Biking, ATV riding, hiking, and Horseback riding.  Fall is an especially beautiful season in Brantingham when the trees turn colors.   This time of year offers great photo and viewing opportunities to experience the true beauty of the Adirondacks.

BRANTINGHAM WILDLIFE

Due to the many bodies of water in Brantingham, it is home to many birds.  You will find occasional sightings of Bald Eagles, Blue Herrins, and other birds like Blue Jays, Robbins, Chickadees, Hummingbirds, Finches, Cormorants and Loons.   Red, Grey Squirrels, and Chipmunks are commonly found scurrying up and down trees.   Black Bears have been known to ransack garbage containers at night, but are rarely seen during the day.   Deer are commonly seen walking along the lake and in the winter walking across it.   There are also Fox, Beavers, Mink, and Racoons all common in the area.

BRANTINGHAM ATV RIDING / SNOWMOBILING

In the summer Brantingham is a hot tourist area for area ATV and UTV riders.  The area boasts some of the best riding trails in New England and is host to the local ATV club the Black River Valley Four Wheeler Club Inc.  Their site can be found here:  BLACK RIVER VALLEY FOUR WHEELER CLUB  

A trail permit is required to ride the local trails.  They can be purchased in person at Kovach Repair in Brantingham.   Kovach Repair does not have a website but their facebook page is:  KOVACH REPAIR

Just outside Brantingham toward Greig is the motocross race track called High Voltage  MX.  They do not have a website but you can find news and updates on their Facebook page: HIGH VOLTAGE MX.

In Winter, Brantingham is a popular snowmobiling area.  Because of its high elevation, it receives a large amount of lake effect snow and tends to have better snow conditions than that of the lower elevation surrounding areas.  The Brantingham trail system ties into that of the Popular Tug Hill Plateau trail systems that are tremendously popular.   Brantingham’s benefit is that it is just far enough out of the way that their trails do not get overrun with traffic and the trails tend to stay in better condition longer. 

The local trails are Groomed and Maintained by the local Snowmobile Club, The Brantingham Snowmads.  The Snowmads are a phenomenal club and one of the best at tending to the trails the moment the snow hits the ground.  Snowmobilers are graced with a great riding experience throughout the entire Winter season because of the Snowmads dedication and care.
