KAYUTA LAKE is one of the most beautiful family-friendly spots in the North East and makes for an enchanting vacation destination. It is located in Forestport, NY which is about 20-minute drive North of Utica on Route 12.

Kayuta Lake has a public campground which is situated at the South Eastern end of the lake near the Indian Creek outlet.

Its surface area envelops 422 acres along with 13.1 miles (21.1 km) of shoreline and 1,142 feet (348 m) of surface elevation. According to the New York State Department of Environment Conservation, the average depth is 10 feet, while the maximum is 22 feet.

 KAYUTA LAKE BOATING

Unlike many of the smaller local lakes Kayuta Lake is a motorized vehicle lake with many boats and Jetskiis.  The dominant vehicles on the lake are Pontoon boats which are referred to as ‘Party Barges’   The average boat length is 18 – 22 ft.  

  • LAKE ACCESS : Kayuta Lake has 2 locations designated as boat launces.  The first is located at the Kayuta Lake Campgrounds and the other is located in the center of the lake.   Launching your boat at the Kayuta Lake campgrounds will cost $10 which includes parking space with no time limits.  

   KAYUTA LAKE PUBLIC CAMPGROUND

Kayuta lake campground is located at the foothills of the Adirondacks, which offers tourists an opportunity to explore the Adirondacks or visit any attractions nearby. Couples can simply rest while their kids are out to adventure and enjoy themselves.  Reaching the Kayuta Lake Campground will immediately require a map to get to know the entire location and various points to stay as well as to move around the property.

The Kayuta lake campground is divided into different sites adjacent to Kayuta Lake. After reaching the campground, the first thing that will get the attention is the terrain which is magnificently filled with fascinating trees all around the Lake and park. This beautiful and natural retreat point is entirely set up as a family-friendly spot to fully enjoy vacation time.

Visitors can take their cars deep into the woods, where they will find many RV sites for those who come in different seasons. Besides, guests will also notice many completely unoccupied RV sites, which they can book for their families for short-term periods or even for an overnight stay.

The campground has been kept a rustic theme all along the ground to make guests feel like they are staying in a totally natural environment in the mountain region, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Moreover, a small part of the property has a dedicated pool for families and friends to enjoy. The pool is open to the public only for limited periods in the year. Other than this, canoes, bikes, and boat rides can be enjoyed during your stay.

 KAYUTA LAKE WEATHER CONDITIONS

There is no set season to enjoy Kayuta Lake; tourists visit it in all four seasons; summer, fall, spring, and winter.

The most recommended season to visit Kayuta Lake is the summer season. The summer season consists of 4 months, from June to September.  Between these months, people will be able to experience the temperature around low to mid 70 degrees Fahrenheit with occasional warm streaks getting up to high 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Warm weather conditions in summers allow the visitors to take part in a variety of water sports and adventure activities such as boating, jet skiing, horseback riding,  cycling and ATV Riding.

The winter season is equally impressive at Kayuta Lake for going around. The winter season stays for around 4 months from December to March.  Between these months, the temperature can fall well below zero so you’ll want to make sure to bundle up.   Because there can be heavy snowfall in the area the winter season is ideal for riding snowmobiles, snow tubing, skiing, and snowboarding.

 KAYUTA LAKE WATER CONDITIONS:

Kayuta Lake is surrounded by large trees, mostly large Pine Trees, which protects it from winds.   Because of this, the lake is typically very calm and smooth.

 In the Summer the average temperature of Kayuta lake water fluctuates from 64 °F to 77 °F depending on recent wind and sunny days. On a typical summer sunny day, the Lake presents a charming view with plants all around this attractive and tranquil Lake.

Kayuta Lake is a freshwater lake that embraces the diversity of numerous aquatic plants on its floor bed, which are key factors in maintaining water’s aesthetic characteristics. Moreover, these plants compete with algae vigorously for nutrients in the water and help improve clarity and ecological functioning. The plants also protect the shores from erosion.

In General, the water on Kayuta lake is dark brown due to the tannins of the local fauna.   In spots, the water can appear murky and be full of silt giving it a more chocolatey appearance.

 

KAYUTA LAKE FISHING:

Kayuta Lake is a good location for fishing.  The fish species Kayuta Lake hosts include Panfish, Trout, Pickerel, smallmouth bass, white sucker, yellow perch, rock bass, black bullhead, and bluegill.

ADVENTURE HORSEBACK RIDING

Located at Swackhammer Road, Turin (New York), just about 30 minutes away from Kayuta Lake, Stillmeadow Ranch is an amazing facility for horseback riding.

Here visitors can experience the horseback trail ride with the help of professional guides. The guides will teach the visitors the basics, from riding on the horse’s back to how to maintain the ride. Even if they haven’t tried it earlier, they can still get back on a horse and build memories of these thrilling and fun vacation moments.

Other than the one in Turin, there are a few other horseback riding facilities in the neighborhood, including Adventure Horse Riding in NYS.
