AIR TRAVEL
Planning to travel to Nicaragua in 2022? Learn from those that make the trip often. There are many things that can go wrong without proper preparation. Even if you are prepared there is a lot of information that is hard to find and no one will tell you before you start planning. Don’t let this keep you up at night, we’ve got your back. ROAD TRAVEL
Because Playa Tesoro is a large peninsula by way of the Tamarindo River, getting to Playa Tesoro is a bit out of the beaten path. The way to arrive by road is to turn off of the main highway, NIC-10, toward Salinas Grande.
For the hard core there is an option to reach Tesoro by Motorcycle or 4×4 vehicle from the North. You could drive to Salinas Grande and then drive down the beach to reach Playa Tesoro. Make sure to pay attention to the high and low tides before deciding this route. It’s best to drive on the beach at low tide. Do not attempt this with a non 4×4 vehicle.
The staff at Tesoro offers complimentary pick up service by boat from Puerto Sandino. The drive from MGA airport to the pick up location is around 1 hour and 45 minutes. The boat ride is quite enjoyable and offers a nice tour of the area upon your arrival. ,
TAXI
A Taxi Ride from MGA to Playa Tesoro will usually take about 2 hours pending there is no traffic. If you are traveling anytime from 1 pm to 5 pm you can expect the trip may take another 20 – 30 minutes due to Mangua traffic., if you get a Taxi from the airport expect to pay over $200.

PUBLIC TRANSIT
From Managua there are buses that will travel close to Playa Tesoro. The best option would be to take a bus to Puerto Sandino and arrive to the pick up location for the Tesoro staff to pick you up by boat.
This method of travel is very cheap but is not very efficient. Buses are usually infrequent and take a long time due to their many stops. You will also need to make several transfers on this journey to Playa Tesoro. Trips have been known to take over 3 hours. For this reason, we do not recommend taking public transit but if you’re traveling on a budget it is an option.
